the prodigal

I've been working on a children's lesson on the prodigal son(s), and I'm stuck on a particular question. This question should be an easy one, and yet it seems to be far more complicated than I ever realized. So here is my question to all of you: What does it mean to forgive?

A very appropriate thing to struggle with right at the onset of lent I think!

This mornings sermon that I heard delt with forgiveness and more than providing a simple how-to or step by step instruction manual, it pointed to Jesus' comment of 'Father forgive them for they know not what they do.' In fact I think it raised more questions than answers. Hmmmm

To adapt an old adage, to forgive is to forget. When you forgive someone you erase all record of that previous wrong. Thats what I've thought so far.
